Ben graduated from Queen's University located in Kingston, Ontario with a degree in Physics in 2010. He went on to help develop a biogas electrical generation system capable of operating in harsh Ontario winters. This work involved freezing temperatures and a close proximity to cow manure, so at the end of this term he returned to school.

Ben received his MSc in High Performance Computing from the University of Edinburgh in August 2012, with his research focusing on High Performance Computer Vision.
