Jean-Christophe Desplat, ICHEC’s Interim Director, has been appointed as Adjunct Professor in the School of Physics, at NUI Galway. The appointment was described by NUI Galway President Professor James J. Browne as being in recognition of Jean-Christophe’s “vast experience in high-performance computing”.
Prof. Desplat has been also appointed Honorary Professor of Computational Science at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS) in 2008.
He has over 20 year experience in High-Performance Computing (HPC), including 10 years at the premier HPC centre in Europe (EPCC in the UK) and 7 years as operational and financial manager of ICHEC. Prof. Desplat has gained worldwide recognition as a leading expert in the field of HPC and this is reflected in his responsibility as PI for over €15m of national and international funding. He is an expert reviewer in the field of HPC and outside of Ireland, he sits as an advisor to the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), and is national delegate at the PRACE AISBL Council.
