ICHEC Congratulates Prof Damien Thompson on Breakthrough Research

ICHEC is delighted to bring to your attention the recent publication by Prof. Damien Thompson on the design of thin layers of a metal-organic [RuIIL2](PF6)2 complex which presents very interesting electronic properties upon charge disproportionation at ambient temperatures, as published in the leading world journal Nature. The findings are unprecedented since those usually only occur under very specific and rare conditions.

Dr Goar Sanchez, ICHEC said: “This ground-breaking research opens up the design of ultra energy efficient materials and nanodevices with properties that can be modulated at room temperature, this creates the potential for more general applications in artificial intelligence and data storage".

The research was supported by compute resources on ICHEC’s HPC system, Kay, via the National HPC Service.

ICHEC would like to congratulate Prof. Damien Thompson and his team for this important cutting-edge research and publication.
