ICHEC shortlisted for Technology Ireland Software Awards

The Irish Centre for High-End Computing has been shortlisted for the Technology Ireland Software Industry Awards 2017. ICHEC have been recognised in the category, Outstanding Academic Achievement of the Year for our ongoing collaboration with Tullow Oil

The Oil & Gas industry has been particularly active in utilising the latest techniques and technologies in HPC for many decades. Our partnership with Tullow Oil PLC started in 2012, and since then we worked to optimise the performance and improve the accuracy of processing terabytes (TB) of Tullow’s seismic data.

Geophysics data, and particularly seismic data in Oil and Gas industry is very large, producing files of several terabytes in size. This leads to constraints and conservatism in how data is used within the industry in terms of management, maintenance, delivery and processing. The Oil & Gas industry has been particularly active in utilising the latest techniques and technologies in HPC for many decades. The direct focus of our research is on enabling the processing of these large files, while simplifying the complexity

Over 70 technology companies and organisations from across Ireland entered this year’s awards and winners will be announced at the annual awards event on November 24 in the Mansion House, Dublin. The keynote speaker for the awards is Barry Lowry, Government CIO and MC for the evening is Darragh Maloney, Sports Broadcaster.
