LuxProvide and ICHEC Forge Strategic Partnership to Advance High-Performance Computing in Europe
In a pivotal development set to accelerate the adoption of HPC in Europe, LuxProvide, guardian of MeluXina, Luxembourg’s state-of-the-art supercomputer, and the Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC), a leader in innovative HPC solutions and services, have entered into a strategic partnership. This alliance is aimed at bridging the transitional phase as ICHEC moves towards the decommissioning of its current platform and the establishment of a new, advanced HPC infrastructure with the support of the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EUROHPC JU).
The Kay platform which supported the National HPC Service reached the end of its 5-year service life in late 2023 and an interim solution was required to bridge the gap until the CASPIr system can be deployed. LuxProvide was selected following a highly competitive EU open tender, specifying strict technical and operational criteria. LuxProvide, leveraging the computational power of MeluXina, was identified as the ideal partner to meet these criteria. Recognised for its exceptional standing within the EUROHPC JU framework and its extensive experience in high-performance computing, LuxProvide’s proposition stood out.
Jean-Christophe Desplat, Director of ICHEC, shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “This collaboration with LuxProvide, and the leveraging of MeluXina’s computational power represent a significant milestone for Irish research and innovation. Not only does it ensure continuity of service for the Irish National HPC Service but it also offers access to a state-of-the-art platform which provides both a potent stepping stone to EuroHPC (pre-) Exascale platforms and aligns with our strategy for accelerated and data-centric computing. Additionally, the potential for a mutually beneficial partnership between our two Centres is substantial, promising considerable benefits for researchers in both countries.”
Uniting for Innovation and Sustainability in High-Performance Computing
“We are excited to embark on this partnership with ICHEC,” said Arnaud Lambert, CEO of LuxProvide. “This collaboration is proof of our commitment to advancing HPC capabilities across Europe, utilising MeluXina to foster innovation and scientific discovery. Together, we aim to empower the research community, build innovation bridges between our two nations and solidify our leadership in the global scientific arena.”
As this strategic partnership unfolds, the synergies between LuxProvide’s MeluXina and ICHEC’s innovative approach are expected to drive significant advancements in HPC applications. This collaboration not only emphasizes the importance of HPC in fostering research, innovation and development across Europe but also sets a new standard for international cooperation in scientific computing.
