HPCQS at ISC 2024
HPCQS at ISC 2024: Ongoing Installations of First Analogue Quantum Computer, Extended HPC-QC Software Environment, Stakeholder Demos and Workshops, Networking.
At the ISC High Performance industry event in Hamburg from 12 to 16 May, the HPCQS consortium will be presenting the latest advances in its project work towards a European HPC- QC infrastructure and enriching the community with expert presentations and discussions.
Pasqal is currently installing its first system outside of its premises, at the CEA’s TGCC supercomputing centre, in Bruyères-le-Châtel, near Paris (France). This 100+-qubit analog quantum computer was acquired by GENCI in the context of the HPCQS European project, and will be coupled with the Joliot-Curie supercomputer, located in the same centre. A twin neutral-atom pilot system was acquired from Pasqal by the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) of Forschungszentrum Jülich in Germany, and will be installed and deployed on their premises by the end of the year. The French system will be available for European users by the end of September 2024.
HPCQS also aims at supporting end users in their discovery of diverse HPC-QC paradigms, by providing access to a variety of HPC-QC software environments on the hybrid platform. The French HPC-QC platform already deployed EVIDEN’s Qaptiva and myQLM hardware-agnostic environments, as well as Pasqal’s Pulser and Quandela’s Perceval hardware-specific emulators, respectively dedicated to neutral-atom analog quantum computing, and linear-optical quantum computing. The use of such emulation services will allow users to be trained and then develop and prepare hybrid HPC/quantum computing applications before being deployed on real physical systems soon available across Europe through HPCQS and EuroHPC. To some extent such emulators will also serve to validate results performed on physical systems in the future. The HPCQS project is announcing today the expansion of the software stack with additional European QC software solutions like C12’s carbon-nanotube noisy qubits emulator Callisto, Alice & Bob’s emulator for logical qubits Felis, QPerfect’s MIMIQ quantum circuit simulator, and Fraunhofer FOKUS’ Qrisp high-level programming framework.
At the ISC High Performance in Hamburg, visitors will have several opportunities to take a closer look at the Pasqal analogue quantum computer purchased by HPCQS and the Pulser software running on it during demonstrations:
Pasqal Demonstrations
GENCI - booth K40
14 May, 11:00 - 11:30
15 May, 15:00 - 15:30
Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (GCS)/JSC - booth K02
14 May, 13:30 - 14:00
15 May, 13:30 - 14:00
The Gauss Centre for Supercomputing/JSC and GENCI exhibition stands are also ideal places to find out more about the role of HPCQS in the overall European HPC strategy and the current status of our project work. With the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC), the Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique et aux Énergies Alternatives (CEA), EVIDEN, the Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC) and ParTec, further HPCQS partners will be present with their own booths at the ISC exhibition from 13 to 15 May.
Our consortium has planned a workshop especially for ISC 2024 on 16 May to present first HPCQS project results to interested individuals from research and companies and to welcome potential end users of the envisaged hybrid system into our user community. The special HPCQS event is part of the close cooperation between ICHEC – the institution leading the project work package 'Demonstrators, Training and User Engagement' -, Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) – which provides the access point to the end user platform through JUNIQ – and Pasqal – the service provider that supplies our quantum computer.
