Supercomputing SMEs
The Irish Centre for High-End Computing – (ICHEC) will be hosting an event entitled "Supercomputing SMEs" at the Merrion Hotel, Dublin 2 on Thursday 26th January 2017. It will consist of a series of short talks outlining the importance of High-Performance Computing (HPC) for SMEs to innovate, improve efficiency, reduce cost and enhance their competitive advantage in today's markets. 97% of companies that have adopted HPC said they could not compete or survive without it (IDC, 2014). The event is being organised in partnership with the SESAME Net project, funded by the European Commission Horizon 2020 programme in support of government policy for technology transfer and industry engagement in the context of the Action Plan for Jobs 2017.
HPC has become a key technology for industry to innovate in domains such as computer aided engineering, renewable energy, financial services, satellite imagery, Earth observation, advanced image analysis, data science and precision agriculture. The SESAME Net project is establishing a pan-European network of HPC competency centres (including ICHEC) to help SMEs understand the potential benefits of HPC and provide guidance to how companies can take advantage of the technology. With speakers from Irish SMEs as well as leading innovation and solution providers from Europe, the day's agenda is driven by case studies to highlight how SME's can benefit from the technology and SESAME Net. This event promises to be one of the most engaging events for SMEs and startups looking to explore new prospects in HPC to maximise their R&D strategy, competitive advantage and RoI.
